Art Erotica is Austin’s sexiest art show. Hosted by the Octopus Club, a fundraising arm of AIDS Services of Austin, the event includes entertainment and erotic desserts. Artists are asked to donate erotic works of art for a silent auction that raises funds to support those living with HIV/AIDS in central Texas.
I’ve been to the event in the past and was thrilled to be asked to produce a promotional video for it. But let’s be real, I’m hardly the erotic or sexual type. It was a really interesting experience to explore the themes of love and lust in my work. When we started on the project, I was really concerned about being too edgy and running the risk of being flagged by social media sites. I settled on tasteful and playful sensuality. I’m really pleased with the result and the video generated some good buzz in the weeks leading up to the event.
During the evening, I got a little carried away starting bidding wars for artwork using the party’s mobile bidding site. In the end I only came home with one piece, a subtle illustration titled “Beards Kissing.” It’s a bit edgier than most of the art in my home, but I can’t wait to find a spot for it.
This project was really exciting and I can’t wait to explore some of these themes in future works.
