Gay Man’s Guide to ACL

I’m gonna come right out and say it. I haven’t always been the biggest fan of ACL Fest. Over the last ten years living in Austin, I’ve been quite a few times and I’ve seen some amazing shows, but weekend festivals like this just aren’t usually my thing. SXSW really brings out the best in my abilities to plan, navigate the city, and drink/eat free things. But there’s something about being holed up in a park for a few days that just doesn’t always appeal to me.
In any case, I’m super excited about this year’s festival and I’m loving the line up. I’m turning a new leaf and I’m determined to make the most out of it. Also, with the festival taking place on two weekends, the time in between is turning into more or less a fall version of SXSW. Here’s my guide to successfully living it up at ACL Festival.

Sunscreen – This is Texas and October is still in our 9-month summer season.

Water Bottle – Sure, drink and live it up but remember to stay hydrated.

Cheap Sunglasses – At festivals, I tend to lose my sun glasses or damage them in some way. Luckily, you can probably get some free ones at the festival, too.

Hot Tank Top – If you’re gonna be a hot sweaty mess, dress it up somehow. You don’t want to regret any photos you take. I plan on wearing this printed tank from ASOS.

Sensible Shoes – With lots of walking to do, it makes sense to wear some comfortable shoes. I always choose to wear these high tops to keep grass and mud out.

Backpack – I have this great backpack from Duluth Pack that I love.

Blanket – It’s just not a festival if you can’t spread out on the grass and nap. It’s also great for setting up a picnic with friends in between shows.
