Why the Gays Should Care: Betty Who

Betty Who performing at SXSW

You may already know Betty Who from the viral video that used her song “Somebody Loves You,” in which a man makes a surprise proposal to his boyfriend in a Home Depot with choreographed dancers. Of course you’ve seen and it’s made you cry. Since then, I’ve become obsessed with Betty’s EP “The Movement.”

The EP is full of upbeat love songs with an 80s vibe. What I love most about them is how hopeful yet precarious each relationship seems in her songs. But of course they’re all danceable, which is a requirement for a pop diva.

While she spent some time during SXSW as the house band on Andy Cohen’s Watch What Happens Live, she also played quite a few shows around town. The performance I caught was full of energy and plenty of fun. She even covered “Say You’ll Be There” by the Spice Girls and “Use Me” by Miguel.

With plenty of pop songs and connections to the gay community, you should know Betty Who by now. If not, get to know her. 😉
